On 18 November 2024, we had the pleasure of meeting with Ms. Mariella Massaro, Ms. Song Shenshen, and Mr. Sakari Varila from Berggren at our office. We engaged in a fruitful discussion about the European Unified Patent Court (UPC).
Berggren is a comprehensive IP firm with experienced litigators and patent attorneys. With the lawyers and European Patent Attorneys qualified to represent clients before the UPC, Berggren is well-positioned to assist clients in protecting their inventions and enforcing their patents across Europe under the UPC system.
The UPC is a patent court of 18 member states of the European Union, which opened on 1 June 2023. It hears cases regarding infringement and revocation proceedings of European patents (regular European patents unless they were opted out and unitary patents). A single court ruling is directly applicable in the member states that have ratified the UPC Agreement.
For Chinese patent agencies like ours, understanding and engaging with the UPC is very important. As Chinese companies expand into the European market, the UPC will become a key platform for safeguarding their intellectual property. By understanding the UPC’s operations and litigation procedures, we can provide more patent protection strategies for our clients and help them address patent infringement issues in Europe.
We will continue to maintain close communication with partners such as Berggren to promote the development and collaboration of global IP matters.
